We start our walk through the beautiful location of de Biniaraix, in the valley of S\u00f3ller. From there we must take a forest track (GR221) that we encounter on the right of the exit road from de Biniraix, in the direction of Fornalutx: we take this path in the direction of the bank and to l\u2019Ofre y C\u00faber.<\/p>\n
Suddenly the route is submerged by the typical mountain olive grove: hundred year old trees of soberly shapes, in terraced terrain and of irregular plantation, upon small multi-property allotments. This path is, on its own side, a good example of traditional dry stone engineering: this turns the de Biniaraix bank into an item of cultural interest (ICI), protected by the patrimony Law since 1994. And in fact the whole path is full of examples of the ancient Mallorcan\u2019s popular engineering: bridges, banks made in the slopes of impotent cliffs, fountains, owned houses\u2026
After some forty five minutes of climbing, keeping to the path\u2019s stone-laying and near the l\u2019Ofre stream \u2013 and just before the olive grove finishes and the natural vegetation begins-, we arrive at a crossed path in which there is a red sign for the GR221 track. This indication informs us about the place from which we came (Biniaraix) and also about the opposite direction, l\u2019Ofre and Cuber. At some twenty five metres from this sign, towards the North, we find the \u201cMadona des Barranc\u201d: a tree of notably wizened and twisted shapes. And in the Madona\u2019s surroundings are other exceedingly unique trees.<\/p>\n
If we carry on for a few metres in the direction of l\u2019Ofre and Cuber, we can quench our thirst in a small fountain that takes water from the source of the Verger, a little further north along the path. From this place, if we look to the north \u2013 in the upper part of the path, just to the side of the Madona des Barranc-, we see a very charming thin and holed olive tree. From this point we can do two things: either follow northwards, in the direction of the l\u2019Ofre mount (two more hours) and the Cuber\u2019s oil press (three more hours), and thus make one of the Mallorcan mountains\u2019 most typical and beautiful excursions; or instead go back to where we came from, in the direction of Biniarraix.
The path going back to Biniaraix allows us to get a new perspective on the mountain olive grove and of the dry stone constructive technique. Furthermore \u2013 and if we are not yet tired-, just where the downwards path stops, in the entrance to Biniaraix, we can take a paved path that leaves us on the right: it is the Marrois path (4.2 km of steep slope), that runs along one of the most important productive areas of Mallorcan oil\u2019s denomination of origin. This path allows us to link with Fornalutx on foot and to delight ourselves with beautiful images of orange, lemon and olive trees upon banks, as well as offering some spectacular views over the Soller valley.<\/p>\n
