The Coma sema olive grove

Distance: 2,6 km

This walk can be started in the marvellous village of Orient, at the end of the valley of the same name, in the Sierra de Tramontan’s central and oriental slope. From Orient we take the road in the direction of Bunyola and , at some hundred metres on the right hand side, we find the entrance to the Coma sema path. We pass the first gap and, at some five hundred metres, we leave the Son Vidal houses on the left hand side.

Carrying on along the main path, some seven hundred metres after Son Vidal we find the entrance fence to the Coma sema ranch. It must be warned that, from here onwards, the route runs along private property terrains and its owner makes a toll payable for visiting the olive grove and the houses of Coma sema(Tel. 971 180 117).

Just upon entering the Coma sema olive grove we already start to enjoy the walk through a splendid olive grove upon terraced terrains. Five hundred metres afterwards, still following the main path, we will pass some metallic fences that are usually open. On the right hand side we have a serna in which fodder is usually sown and, a little further on, another olive grove in which we can contemplate capriciously shaped olive trees. From here, at the end of the path and on the top of a hill, we can already see the houses of Coma sema.

Coma-sema is a good example of mountain holding. A traditional oil press of mechanical traction from the medieval age that, thanks to its owner’s tenacity, still works today.
